My current student pet peeves
My current student pet peeves (in no special order) are:
- students that come late (5-30 minutes) to a lecture and without excusing themselves or being ashamed
- students that knock on my office door without taking into consideration the fact that I have separate office hours and meeting rules for student visitors (clearly posted on my office door); no, there are no ”quick questions” and I will not be able to keep a sane mind when 120 students randomly knock on my door and interrupt the other things besides teaching that I am trying to do without interruptions in my daily work
- students not being able to fill in a simple lab wrapper correctly (missing signature, missing resubmission date, missing lab group ID, etc.)
- students nearing their graduation, who still don’t know how to answer questions in an exam correctly, for example answering only ”yes” without motivating the answer
- students that never read the instructions and try to wing it as they go on in a course and thereby irritate all others who are able to take instructions and take them to their hearts
- students that use colloquial and imprecise language (and poor grammar even when writing in their own language!) in a formal report, for example in Swedish: ”medans”, ”vårat”, ”hela servern går ner”, and ”även fast”.
